When it comes to your wedding invitations, the design is just the beginning! A full invitation suite is more than just a pretty card—it’s a carefully curated package of paper goods that set the tone for your day, provide essential information, and make your guests feel truly welcomed. So what’s actually in a custom wedding invitation suite?
This is the star of the show! The main invitation includes the names of the couple, the host line (who’s inviting), the date, time, and location of the ceremony. It’s the piece your guests will display on their fridge and one they’ll keep as a keepsake.
Also known as a response card, this allows your guests to reply with whether or not they’ll attend. It may include meal selections or song requests too, depending on your wedding plans. RSVP cards usually come with a pre-addressed and stamped envelope (or sometimes a postcard version) to make it easy for guests to send back.
This is where you can include extra information like reception details, accommodations, transportation, dress code, a wedding website, or any other logistics your guests should know. It’s a catch-all piece that’s super helpful, especially for out-of-town guests.
This is the mailing envelope and includes the full name and address of the guest(s). It’s often the first impression of your suite and can be customized with calligraphy, envelope liners, or wax seals to add elegance and personality.
Not always necessary, but a lovely touch! The inner envelope holds the actual invitation suite and traditionally includes the names of exactly who is invited (like “Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Family” or just “Mr. John Smith”), which helps clarify who’s included.
A beautiful, optional addition—this is a printed piece glued to the inside of the envelope flap. It adds a pop of color or pattern when your guests first open the envelope. Think of it as an extra touch of flair.
If you’re hosting guests from out of town or have a venue that’s a little off the beaten path, a custom map or directions card can be incredibly helpful. You can include landmarks, parking info, or even a little watercolor of your venue.
If your reception is at a separate location from the ceremony—or you just want to keep your main invitation more minimal—a separate reception card can be included with the time, location, and any other relevant information.
Not necessarily! Your invitation suite should reflect your wedding style, your budget, and what your guests truly need to know. Some couples opt for a simplified version with just the main invitation and RSVP, while others love the elegance of a full suite with every detail beautifully printed and tied together.
As your stationery designer, I’m here to help you choose what makes sense for your day—balancing style, function, and personality. Whether you want something timeless and formal or modern and playful, we’ll create a suite that tells your story beautifully.
